There are a few things God has given us victory over through Christ. As you go into this new season, He wants you to remember that you are not a victim. The scripture tells us we have an overwhelming victory through Christ (Rom. 8:37 NLT). The day you accepted Him as Lord, you were gloriously covered in the garment of victory.

The victory he gives us is absolute, it is self-contained and undoubted. The victory He gives us is complete, whole, and not missing in any ramifications. Through Jesus Christ, we have an absolute and complete victory.

Goliath is an uncommon example of someone in the Bible who had a victor’s mindset. (I know that took you by surprise). The scripture helps us understand that he was a valiant warrior and even describes him as “the champion Goliath”! He came to the battleground against the Israelites with the mindset of a victor. In his mind, he had already seen the end of that battle and it ended in victory for him, that’s why he was so confident. (1 Sam. 17:1-9)

However, our God is a much mighty man in battle. Victory belongs to the Lord. Goliath never stood a chance against him. (1 Sam. 17: 41-51)

If Goliath had the mindset of a victor, how much more we who have the Lord on our side? Remember, if God be for us, who dares to stand against us? (Rom. 8:31)

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Philippians 4:13 NKJV

Another uncommon angle to our victory in Christ is found in Philippians 4:13. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. There is absolutely nothing on this earth that has the power to overpower you. You can do them all.

Whether it’s that new job that seems complex, passing that exam that no one passes in one sitting, or walking in the will of God for your life, through Christ and His strength, we have all that we need to overcome those challenges. We can do them all because He has given us victory even in those areas.

Standing firm in victory

The scripture admonishes us to take up the full armor of Christ (Eph. 6:13). The fact that we already have victory in Christ does not mean the devil will leave us alone. As long as we remain in this world, situations will arise that will put our claim of victory to the test. What we can do to remain firm in this victory is to put on the armor of Christ. And as we do that, we must guard our minds with the truth of this victory.

Satan will come to deceive us into thinking we are losing the battle but like David charged on against his enemies with victory in mind, we must do the same (1 Sam. 30:8-18). Instead of focusing on what Satan can do, let’s keep our minds fixed on what Jesus has done.

Moreover, standing firm in faith is key to standing firm in victory. The scripture tells us that everyone who is born of God overcomes the world and the victory that overcomes the world is our faith (1Jn. 5:4). King Jehoshaphat was a king full of faith. There was a time when his enemies arose against him and he was flustered. God gave him an idea to freely allow the worshippers to go ahead of the warriors and that would be all he would have to do.

He already had a potential victory but its chances of manifesting depended on his faith. Thankfully, the king was strong in faith and did as God instructed. Without even having to lift as much as a bow, he received a marvelous victory. (2 Chro. 20)

We have an absolute and complete victory through Christ. He gives us victory on every side. Let this truth influence your prayers, such that you begin to pray from victory instead of praying for it. Let it influence your living, such that you begin to see yourself as more than a conqueror through Christ. Let it influence your mind such that your thoughts and imaginations always come to a positive end. Through Jesus, we are more than conquerors.

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
