In the beginning, God…
This statement alone is a testament to the existence of God. Many people have had doubts and a few skepticisms but the truth remains that God exists, He has always existed and will continue to exist.
The facts that back this statement up are seen multiple times in scripture. The world around us also attests to this. Everything, from the world’s creation to the continuity of life, is evidence of the One, true, living God. (Job 38:4; Gen 1:27)
For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
Romans 1:20 ESV
In the beginning, God…
He was not formed in the beginning, He formed the beginning. Here, we learn how God was in existence even at the beginning. The beginning met Him, He did not meet it. God has always been there, from the start. In fact, He existed before the start.
This shows us the eternal nature of God. When it comes to God, time is not a constraint. He has existed even before and will continue to exist till eternity. (Heb. 7:3; Isa. 40:28)
The Bible tells us God is the Alpha and Omega. He is the beginning and the end. The beginning of the world is not a thing, it is God. (Rev. 22:13)
Also, we see that He was God even at the beginning. He didn’t just become God when humans were made. With or without us, God remains God.
I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.
Revelation 22:13 NIV
In the beginning, God…
This brings into perspective the fact that God is unparalleled. The scripture tells us “God”, not God and some angels or God and the devil. In the beginning, it was just God. He alone, all by Himself, was in existence. Every other thing or person or living being came into existence through Him.
The scripture tells us that all that was created was created through Jesus (Col. 1:16). He is the only one that has existed since forever. That is why it can never be correct to equate or match God with the devil. They are not equals. They are not word and opposite. God is of a class of His own, existing in Himself and by Himself even before other beings came into existence.
“With whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we may be compared?”
Isaiah 46:5 NIV
…created the heavens and the earth.
Although not the focus of today’s post, this part of the verse gives us further insight into who God is. God is the creator. He created things from nothing. Colossians 1:16-17 tells us that not only did He create all things. All things were also created for Him.
This teaches us humility. Genesis 1:1 helps us realize that we are nothing without God and nothing compared to Him.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:1 NIV
The beginning started with God. Why do we think we can continue it without Him? Many people only involve God in their lives, finances, finances, health, academics, marriages, careers, etc., when trouble looms. But did you know you can involve Him right from the start?
In the beginning of that decision you want to make, God can be involved. Like how creation happened in an organized manner, everything –including the end –can be planned from the beginning. Your life becomes more organized and structured when God is at your beginning.
Perhaps He hasn’t been in your beginning, it is not too late to involve Him now. He can create a new beginning for you. He can start you on a new template, one where He is involved. But first, you must be in submission to Him. To do that, say this prayer: Dear God, I thank you for your love for me shown through Jesus. I acknowledge you as God and Lord of my life today. From now on, I involve you in all that concerns me. In Jesus name, amen.
