Truth is not relative. Look at it from the top, back, sides, bottom, or front, the truth remains the same. Truth is not subjective. It doesn’t matter what you feel about it or what popular opinion is. It does not matter the things in question, what is true remains true. The truth is rather. It applies to everyone and does not change, no matter what.
If there were a hundred truths, Jesus would be one of them. If there were 50, He would be one of the 50. If there were 25, best believe He is part. And if only one truth existed, it would be Jesus. The scripture tells us that Jesus is the truth and the only one if we are to get to the Father. (Jn. 14:6)
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 14:6 ESV
Jesus tells us that He is the truth. Beyond telling us what is true, He points our focus to Himself as the embodiment of all truth. The best place to find answers to the questions in your mind is in the truth, it is in Jesus.
…full of grace and truth
The book of John starts powerfully by introducing us to Jesus, taking us as far back as the beginning. In chapter 1 verse 14, it describes Jesus as being full of grace and truth. We understand, by this, that there is no space left in Him for lies to dwell.
Today, many Christians forget to emphasize the fact that Jesus is full of truth. There is no hidden agenda or deceit with Him. The grace of God and His truth go together. People want to capitalize on grace but diminish what is true. Through Jesus, we learn that both are meant to co-exist and work together. Tell people about the grace of Jesus but remind them that it is not independent of what is true. In all His lovingkindness, Jesus remains full of truth.
The truth sets free
The scripture says knowledge of the truth sets free (Jn. 8:32). Recently, my friend’s sewing machine developed a fault and she was struggling with it. She found it very difficult to sew and spent days on things that could have taken her only a couple of hours. This was until she gained the knowledge of what the problem was. When she did, she addressed the problem and was able to sew seamlessly again (no pun intended). The knowledge she gained set her free from the problems she was facing. Knowing the truth has liberated some people from time-wasting activities, disappointment and even life-altering mistakes. Ignorance is a burden, lies are terrible slave masters, and half-truths are set traps but the truth frees you from them all.
“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 8:32 NIV
Jesus sets free
If Jesus did not come to earth for anything, He came for this one thing. He came to set man free from the bondage of sin, sickness, and the grave (Rom. 8:34; Rom. 6:6-7; Eph. 1:7) . He came to expose the works of darkness and break us free from our shackles. The scripture tells us that He redeemed us from the curse of the law (Gal. 3:13). There is nothing more enslaving than sin and nothing more limiting than a curse but Jesus redeemed us from it by paying the ultimate price. He gave up Himself so that the grave could give us up. The strangest thing is that freedom can sometimes be a bondage but not with Jesus. His freedom confines us to His word so that we are not left helpless (Rom. 6:22).
Know the truth and the truth will set you free
If Jesus sets free and the truth also sets free, these two statements can be equated. We can then translate this statement to this: know Jesus, and Jesus will set you free. You may be going to church but don’t be too sure you know Jesus. Your name may be a biblical one but this has nothing to do with your knowledge of Jesus. True freedom comes when we know the One who gives it. The more you know Jesus, the more freedom you experience. Fear had Peter in a chokehold, but as he knew Jesus, he became free from fear.
The more you let deception and lies grow, the tighter the shackles become on your feet and hands. The more you let Jesus, the truth, find space in your life, the more freedom you experience.
In this world full of deception and lies, only One person remains true. The key to your freedom lies in the Truth. Jesus is that truth. If you would like to receive Him into your life today, say this prayer: Dear Jesus, I thank you for your sacrifice of love for me. I thank you for revealing yourself to me as the truth. Today, I accept you into my life, help me to know you more. Amen.
