Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praises. James 5:13
Worship is great. I love it—the atmosphere it brings, the stillness of our hearts in that very moment, knowing that God is present. Revivals, healings and salvation happen during worship sessions. And I believe this is the reason why many believers make the mistake of thinking one is more sacred than the other.
The truth is that praise is also sacred. It is also a spiritual tool. When the Israelites were going to battle against a powerful enemy, the instruction to them was simple: swords in your hand with praises of the Most High on your lips. In another battle, the praise leaders were placed ahead of the actual swordsmen. These are powerful illustrations of how sacred the ministry of praise is. Praise is one of the weapons of our warfare. (Psalm 149:6; 1Chronicles 20)
Many believes underestimate it and in their underestimation, they abuse it. A wise man once said, when the use of a thing is unknown, abuse is inevitable.
David was not a perfect man. But there’s one spiritual code that he hacked; the power of praise. He praised God at any time, for anything, at all times. It’s not difficult to see how he always managed to overcome his troubles.
Never doubt the power of praise. Next time you’re told to praise the Lord, do it with all your might and power. Let it come from your spirit. Let it be the sacred act that it should be.
Praise ye the Lord!
