I’m not talking about Jesus the footballer, I’m talking about Jesus the Savior. In this post, I’d be explaining why you need to be more appreciative of Jesus Christ but I can’t talk about that without giving you a background knowledge on who Jesus Christ is. Jesus Christ, as His name implies, is the Messiah. He is the One whom God designated to save us all from eternal judgement. He was born as God in flesh (this makes Him one with God), under the Law and happens to be the only one who has ever fulfilled the Law. This was the first great thing He did for us. [John 1:14; Isaiah 9:6-7; Romans 8:3-4; Matthew 5:17] 

Jesus not only saved our souls but He also redeemed us from the curse of the Law. The Law comes as a set and so breaking just one of its requirements is equal to breaking all. It is practically impossible to live without breaking one at least once in a lifetime. But Jesus lived His entire life on earth, blameless, without breaking a single requirement of the Law thereby averting the curses that come with breaking Law. Naturally, we would have borne the curses that come with breaking the Law but when Jesus lived such an exceptional life by fulfilling the Law, He took up all those curses that should have been ours and gave us His grace in exchange for it. Now, rather than worry frantically about so many Laws to keep and how to keep them, we are empowered by the grace of God to live as God wills in His word. As a follow up to what is above, Jesus Christ made Christianity much more simpler, or rather, He restored Christianity to what God had wanted it to be from the start; a relationship. When man fell after his deception and disobedience in the garden of Eden, his sins caused a wedge between him and God. To sort of remedy the situation, the Law came about but it also had so many observances and protocols that ended up making Christianity more complex than God wanted. Recently, I started reading the book of Leviticus which is a book of the Law and I realised there is absolutely no way a person could have been able to keep all those complex and plentiful laws. However, all that worry is no more our concern since the death and resurrection of Christ Jesus. Now, He, living in us as the Holy Spirit empowers us from within to know what is acceptable and what is not and to also do that which is acceptable, so much so that pleasing God becomes so natural now. We need not worry about a distance between we and God anymore. The summary of what Jesus Christ came to do for us is to deliver to us, grace. We could not have survived without His sacrifice. Had it been that the covenant of the Law was sufficient to reconcile us with God, there would have been no need for this new covenant of grace brought to us by God. The blood of Jesus Christ shed for us on the cross of calvary is different from the blood of Abel. It is also different from the blood of the many lambs shed in previous times. The blood of Abel cried out for revenge and the blood of those lambs were not precious enough to atone for our sins. But Jesus’ blood speaks grace and it made a complete atonement for our sins both the past, present and future ones. Too often, we underestimate the great things Jesus did for us. As if saving our souls and redeeming us wasn’t enough, Jesus still sent to us, the Comforter who is the Holy Spirit. Jesus did not leave us alone in this perverse world, He sent the Holy Spirit to dwell in us and dwell with us. Jesus gave us the greatest gift of all, He gave us eternal life. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son; that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”. John 3:16
