“If any man be in Christ, He is a new creature, old things have passed away, behold all things have become new”. 2 Corinthians 5:17

Many believers today are unaware of their new creature reality and have hence been subjected to believe all manner lies and deceptive schemes of the devil. First, it’s the battle against sin that they think they can never overcome to the persistent feeling of guilt of their past mistakes, the devil uses all these wiles against them because of their ignorance.
Being a new creature means your spirit has gone through regeneration to live the very life of God on earth and even in eternity. Meaning, things associated with you formerly are gone for good. “…old things have passed away…” then the Scripture goes further and prepares us for a banger line by using the word behold. (Using that word tells us to pay attention to what comes in next):

“Behold, all things have become new”

A person who was a heavy smoker before coming to Christ might be reading this any wondering “the doctor says I’m terminally ill because of my smoking does this really apply to me?” Yes, yes it does. When the bible said all things, it meant all things. You do not have to let your old lifestyle define you, because you are a new creature and the old is passed away. This means that if such a person holds on to the word of God with strong faith that their organs have been regenerated by the reason of the new life they have, they would begin to see its manifestations.

The same also goes for sin and addiction. If you feel you are always ending up in sin no matter how hard you try to resist it, or you just can’t fight through an addiction, try this exercise: every day you wake up confess this scripture; 2 Corinthians 5:17, let it be your mantra. You would realize soon enough that those sinful addictions that had you by the neck are no longer attractive to you. It is because you have internalized your new creature reality and so you’re starting to live like it.

God does not see you as the wretched sinner you used to be, now that you are in Christ, He sees you as His righteousness through Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:21). That is your new identity and you should live by it. Stop cowering under the bully of Satan that you’re still a sinner. You have victory over sin, the victory Christ gave you by dying and resurrecting. You are no longer at sin’s mercy. Sin is now under your foot because you have become a new creature, existing in the flesh but living by the Spirit. You have become a man with the God-nature! Hold tight to your confession of righteousness, holiness/ purity and all the fruits of the Spirit.

Our new creature reality gives us the rights to boast of eternal life through Christ Jesus. Before being in Christ we could never had dreamed of such privilege but now we do not just dream it, we also live it! (1 John 2:25)

Apostle Paul wrote this verse: 2 Corinthians 5:17 by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit so he received a first-hand revelation of this reality. It is easy to see why he also wrote Romans 8:1 that says “there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus; who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit”.

The New Creature reality we have been given by God through Jesus Christ is powered by the Holy Spirit. Read that again. Meaning we cannot live as new creatures, independent of the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit that empowers us to live in alignment with God’s will for us. (Romans 8:10-11; Galatians 5:22-25; Romans 8:14)

A key thing to note is that you can never live in this reality outside Christ, you might have a façade of it but you do not get the real thing outside Christ. The criterium is to be in Him. Therefore, a person must be saved to receive this. If you would like to accept the salvation of God made available to you through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, please say this prayer: “Lord, I admit that I have sinned and have shown no regard to you in time past, but today I receive your forgiveness and accept your salvation made available to me on the cross, I receive today, Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior”.
