May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 15:13

God made everything meticulously. Reading through the creation story, we see how He took His time creating the world. Everything He did, He could have done in a day or even in a few seconds but, He took His time to create the world we live in. And when He finished creating something, He would always look at it and comment and say “Good”. When He completed the work of creation, He commended it as very good. That is, everything He made, He made as very good…including you and I. (Gen. 1)

Many of us have self-esteem that does not tally with what God has created us to be. We see ourselves as worthless and useless. But hey, this is what God says: you are My very good creation. The idea that we are worthless and useless is a gimmick the devil uses to derail believers into living in another’s identity. There is nothing that God created that wasn’t good, how much more man, whom He created after His own image (Gen. 1:26).

The trees, birds, seas, and even angels were not created in God’s image. We are the only creatures made in God’s image. How beautiful is that?

Of all the things God created, man is the creation in whom He lives. Scripture tells us that we are the temple of God. He does not live in temples made by human hands. He lives in a temple made by His own hands. Just before you think to yourself again that you are worthless, remember that God lives in you. His very Spirit, the Holy Spirit lives in you. (1 Cor. 3:16-17)

And there is absolutely nothing that God created that He loves more than He loves you and I. God so loved us that He sent His Son Jesus to die for us. Despite knowing what was to come, Jesus still went ahead to suffer and die for our sake. (Jhn. 3:16; Heb. 12:2b)

What does this mean to believers?

It means God will take care of you. Jesus Christ tells us that if God dresses the lilies and feeds the birds of the air, how much more we. How much more those called by His name? How much more His very good creation? The knowledge that you are a creation that God prizes greatly should put your mind at ease. It should liberate you from fear of the unknown and make you trust a little bit more. (Matt. 6:28-30)

Just as He lives in us, we ought to live in Him. Jesus tells us to abide Him, even as He abides in us…Apostle Paul grasped this understanding and that’s why He said “in Him I live, in Him I move, in Him I have my being”. Our existence is because of Him. So, before we get proud and “independent” we must remember that we exist because of Him and not the other way round, as some falsely think. (Jhn. 15:4; Acts 17:28)

Furthermore, we must be humble at all times. A stream that forgets its source will soon quickly dry up. We must remember that we are creations of the Creator. This should make us revere God and remain humble before Him. God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. (Jas. 4:6-7)

This is a matter of identity. Instead of letting the devil sell you short of who you are, you must hold on firmly to your identity in God. You must remember that God took His time on you. He made you in His image, for His purpose. He calls you His temple and has put the Holy Spirit in you. You are not useless or worthless. You have authority in Christ Jesus.

Finally, because there is no creation God loves more than He loves us, we must continuously remember His love for us and live in it. We must be appreciative of this love and make it a life’s mission to share it to unbelievers. We must be able to say to them –and ourselves –“Jesus loves you, you are God’s very good creation”.
