Today’s blog post is more of a Bible study. It steers our hearts towards some of God’s promises that we often forget. It reminds us that the night won’t last forever—joy always comes in the morning (Psa. 30:5). Still, while you wait for the morning, remember: God is present through the night.

Life is full of ups and downs and feelings of despair or weariness may come from time to time, but a believer should not be overcome by these challenges. None of the struggles you face catch God by surprise. He knew just how turbulent life on earth could be. That’s why Jesus not only promised us His peace—He promised His very presence, even to the end of the age.

When the going gets tough, we find strength in the Word of God and comfort in the promises of Jesus. Here are some Bible verses to meditate on whenever you feel like giving up. Guard your heart with these truths—and in a moment, your deliverance will come.

1As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.  2My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?

3My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, “Where is your God?” 4 These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house of God under the protection of the Mighty One with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng.

5 Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. 6 My soul is downcast within me; therefore I will remember you from the land of the Jordan, the heights of Hermon—from Mount Mizar.

7 Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me.8 By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me— a prayer to the God of my life.9 I say to God my Rock, “Why have you forgotten me? Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy?”10 My bones suffer mortal agony as my foes taunt me, saying to me all day long,  “Where is your God?”

11Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
Psalm 42:1-11 NIV

1God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

2Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, 3though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. 5God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.
Psalm 46:1-5 NIV

But those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31 BSB

Still I am certain to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. / Wait patiently for the LORD; be strong and courageous. Wait patiently for the LORD!
Psalm 27:13-14 BSB

Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will surely help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10 BSB

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
Isaiah 43:2 NIV

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
Romans 8:18 ESV

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
John 14:27 NIV

and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
Matthew 28:20 NIV
